Today after stopping by Wawayanda state park, I realized it was almost 60* on the first day of February! So me and Lenny decided to hike the Appalachian Trail, up to the spot that overlooks Rickey's farm, the site for Strange Days. The views are jaw dropping and never disappoint. Today was no exception and it was awesome to soak up some sun on the top after the winds blew away the lingering clouds.

We had a set of 4" over 35mm Forking By Frank tubes laying around (thanks to Cal!), so I decided to change up my rusted and pitted front end. We got some Busch Light, put the shovel on the jack, and got to work.

The result is pleasing to the eye in all its 80's glory. I'm even retaining the dual disk setup for now, since the brake lines still reach with no problem.

Well we're back from our mini Florida retirement trip with the ladies! Don't know if that's good or bad, but at least we got our heads in the right place (the sand) to brew up some ideas for next year's Stange Days 2. We're sun burned, fat, and broke; so it's time to get the ideas flowing with the whiskey that replaces warm weather.

This pan is gorgeous. So many cool little touches make this bike a subtle beauty. When do you see the sidecar loops incorporated into a crazy mold job (and left open)? Probably never! Don't forget the rigid front end, chain sissy bar, wild neck molding, and that awesome rear pipe. I also like how the fender isn't laying on the rear tire.

Here's another picture I found of it. Gotta say I like the first version better. I never really understood the whole Kim-Tab wheel craze. The AR mag is cool but the spokes do it for me on this chop.

Someone's bitin' my style! A similar build to mine, he even has the blue plate jewels. Although his is a flatside shovel so he's got me there! Looks like he has the same "too high" Crazy Frank problem too. I'm thinking it might be because the Franks we have are earlier units that sat a little higher up. Just my guess, judging from old pictures and whatnot.

These super low shocks Ken gave me pretty much did the trick in dropping my Frank a little lower. When I had the stock height covered shocks on, the bike looked like it was ready to hit jumps.

Here's a couple variations of Crazy Frank fenders that I found very interesting. This one looks like it may be a modified original, or possibly even a one-off custom version. Either way, it's really cool!

The white seat is awesome.

This one is wild. I have no clue what those mounts would fit. They have a real strange angle, and it looks like the top taillight mount was cut off and relocated right on the fender; eliminating the plate mount. Again, this could even be a custom take on a classic.

This is someone's bike on the Jockey Journal, and it sports the elusive rigid Crazy Frank. Subtle beauty, and I'm diggin' the backrest.

Here's a weld-on version for a rigid frame.

This is a prismic Frank that Justin from AZ found and for scored for dirt cheap, and sent me a picture of. I've only seen 2 modern pictures of these (this one and mine), and a couple old magazine scans of them.

Looks like a total custom job but it reminds me of a Frank. The integration of the Master Craft light is so awesome.

Vintage Motorcycle Museum in Newburgh, NY

I took a little trip on my birthday August 4th, to the Motorcyclepedia Museum in Newburgh, NY, put together by Ted and his pops from V-Twin. It was seriously an unreal experience. The amount of vintage iron in that place is mind boggling. The downstairs floor has all the really old shit from the teens and under. My favorite area was Chopper City, so here's just a tiny taste of what's there. I highly suggest checking this place out.

Not much posting lately, which is good, we're living life! I've been down south in the Outer Banks for like the past 8 day on vacation which got cut short due to this dumb hurricane. Mandatory evacuations suck. I took a bunch of photos with my new Canon Rebel, but the files seem too large to upload at the moment, gotta figure that out. Here's some nonsense in the meantime. Oh yeah, we might (probably, possibly, if things go well) be giving away a real, gnarly, ready to ride, straight outta the '70's, cocaine snortin', slut magnet chopper at Strange Days 2; wait what?! Don't hold me to it, but that's the plan......

The Woodstock museum in Bethel Woods is pretty cool; even had an awesome sign for Ken.

"Chris and Ken came over to my place on a cold November night to discuss the initial idea of Strange Days. I was impressed. These guys are some riding motherfuckers. I brought out some stacks of old photo albums from back in the day for a little inspiration. Over some cold beers and some faded photos, the Strange Days wheels started rolling. Those boys saw the light and rode away late that November night with a whole new attitude.

The day of Strange Days a couple of the younger guys asked me if this is what it was really like. You guys nailed it. Throw down your bag in a field with like minded people. Ive been doin this since 1966 and I've slept in train yards, garbage dumps, and burned out garages but Rickey's Farm was truly a unique and special place.

The photos above are from Easyriders coverage of Indio 1972. The scenes of Strange Days weren't all that different. Just the bikes are old now and photos are in color!

Strange Days: Part 1

What a trip! I can't believe its over. After months of planning with Ken and Chris it came and went but I'll never forget it. I remember Ken telling me one night that he wanted to have a grassroots bike event here in northern NJ. Like the old days. Ride in, thrown your tent down and party on. Now, I can't speak for the old days because I was never there, but my ol'man was there to verify that we were pretty damn close. He said its been well over 30 years that he has been to something like this.

Just the right amount of the right people were there. There was no "hey-look-at-me-contest." Everyone that showed was chill and had a mutual respect for each other and their bikes. We talked about having an actual bike show but there really was no need! There were bikes all around in the field. It wasn't a select crowd of "the cool kids" and just everyone else was a spectator. Every single person that came made this event.

The money at the gate wasn't for our pockets. It was to pay the bills we had so you guys could have a good time. So thanks to all that came out and supported us. We will definitely be doing it again next year.

My ol'man is doing his own write up about the ol'days and Strange Days. I will be posting that soon. So enjoy Part 1 of the photos.

Sun went down, time to get some grub at the Vernon Inn.

Ed lost his fender and sissybar late Friday night between the Strange Days grounds and Ken's place. The Indian Larry goodies he brought up from Brooklyn for Aidan's benefit caused a lot of stress to his fender. The spotlight on my ol' cop car came into use in searching for the missing fender and sissybar. We found it but the sissybar was destroyed. Some quick bends in some threaded rod and a 110 mig welder got Ed back on two wheels to get him back home on Sunday.

Mean while Ken was trying to get his moon machine back on the road too.

Just wanted to thank everyone once again for your generosity and support in raising money for young Adidan Jack Seeger. We had a great time meeting folks and sharing the challenges facing the Seeger family. It was wonderful to see the how much people truly cared about the welfare of the young boys' condition and the willingness to help any way possible. We were able to raise well over $700.00 throughout the day but most importantly were able to raise awareness and support for Aidan and Adrenoleukodystrophy (ADL).

Ok folks Strange Days is around the bend in good ol northern NJ, its been a busy couple weeks
getting ready but its finally here and its goin to be a blast!!! So were still goin to be kicking off the morning of July 23 and the forecast is high 80s and mostly sunny!! 20 dollar admission per person but if you show up wit your lady on the back of the moon machine well wave her charge.

Their will be a food truck on site selling hot dogs, burgers, etc for a good price. We do have a limited supply of PBRs so we recommend BYOB and dont worry their is liquor stores, bars, auto parts, hardware stores and food with in a couple minutes of our location and they are all listed on our site maps thanks to Cal.

Remember we are partying and camping in a feild and their is a tree line for shade so be ready for anything and lets get in touch with nature.Also we are renting this land from a a local farmer and he made it a strong point not to tear up his property so we do have to be respectful. Thanks to our sponsors we have tons of goodies that will be handed out from a custom painted gas tank from 313 paint, stainless sissy bar from the retro fit crew, biltwell helmet, death science taillight and tons of other free goodies!!!

Their are 3 bands playing from mid afternoon to 11pm, the main act is Uncle Shoe Horn who is a Grateful Dead tribute band and they will be playing their tasty licks while the sun sets over the green rolling hills of NJ and as the bonfire lights for the night to get strange.

After hitting the local bike night, tonight should be fun with some polishing, chopper movies, and some devil in a bottle. I was going to sell one of the Finch lights, keep one, and make some profit, but there's no way I can part with one and separate the pair.

I saw this Born Free 3 pic on the Dice blog, http://dicemagazine.blogspot.com/. See the fender on that gorgeous gray pan? It's the universal rigid Crazy Frank flat fender! Man, you never ever see these things, and to see one used on such a beautiful build, instead of on a shelf, made my day. That seat really is perfect too. Damn, fuckin cool shit. First off, things are coming together on the narrowed 41mm front end. Just have to get the internals and figure out a headlight setup and what type of spacing will be required on the wheel. Gotta love those '49-only top caps. Ken's also got some 4" over 35mm tubes in the works for his shovel.

Out of nowhere, Cal's ironhead turned into a '70's dream this weekend! It's actually really crazy that he had the tank, I had the fender, we realized it, and reunited these two the way they were meant to be!

This old knuck had to be my favorite bike of the weekend; perfect in every way.

Sounded as good as it looks cruising by.

Evel stunts.

I did pretty well on the parts side of things, but the pair of old Finch pawn lights were my main score.

Overall this weekend was a fuckin blast. Our bikes did not let us down, we drank enough for a month, people hit jumps, and the rain held out for the ride home. Couldn't ask for more. Patty sitting on her first big twin while waiting for Ken to get his bike fixed and arrive, so we could hit the road.

The ride there was beautiful and the bikes ran good; then we met up with the early crew, set up camp, got the beers flowing, and started rummaging through parts!

Billy rolled in with some carb troubles on his Ironhead, but they were quickly taken care of with all the readily available parts. This would prove to be minor compared to his stunt later in the night...

The bikes love socializing.

Retrofit Garage Sale

Besides the endless drinking and BBQing this Memorial Day weekend, we stopped by Cal and his Pop's place for the Retrofit garage sale. Lot's of good shit and good people. The bikes decided to chill in the yard, which made for some cool pics. (WAY better ones here! - http://captcals.blogspot.com/)

Joe's Pan: the epitome of cool. He hooked me up with some 4 over 41mm tubes, which are perfect for the front end I'm building. Thanks again!

Then some of us took a cruise out to the Rickey Farm, the picturesque site for Strange Days. The bikes ran great and the food and beer were abundant, definitely an awesome Memorial Day weekend of riding and chilling with good people.
